Result spoils Farid`s Special Saturday

Monday, 17th Oct 2016

"It was my first start for a while now. I am pleased with that, pleased to get a goal but not pleased with the result."

Farid El Alagui returned to Falkirk on Saturday and fittingly scored against his old club. He told the media:-

"Coming back here is always a special game for me. It is a special stadium with some great memories but obviously mixed feelings.

"Scoring a goal was great but when it is for nothing it does not make it as sweet as it would have been. I am a bit gutted because I felt at times we played well but we conceded two quite easy goals and that makes it really hard to come back.

"When we got the goal there was still fifteen minutes to go. Lots can happen in fifteen minutes but wae maybe could have put more pressure on them. They defended well towards the end and kept us away from a second goal. I thought we gave it all but we just need to change what is not working just now. I am sure that we can do much better."

The Pars finished strongly and demonstrated in the final quarter of an hour that they could compete with Falkirk. Farid felt that his team has started well but when Falkirk got the first goal they gained a lift that took them though to half time.

"In the second half we lost another easy goal and the same again - it gave them another lift and made it harder for us to come back. I think there are a few details we need to change, I don`t think we are far away but at the moment we need to change what is not working. I am sure that we can definitely do better than 2-1 here."

Four of the Pars six league defeats have been by one goal margins and really in none of the matches have Dunfermline suffered crushing defeats.

"I think we are doing the basics really well, we just need to learn and try and change. Throughout the game we always give a good performance but some few details cost us the game. That has been the story since the start of the season.

"We keep working in training to try and change that. I don`t think we are far away but we have to do that quick because next week is another big game."

After five appearances off the bench and three goals, Farid was handed his first start against Falkirk and found the net yet again.

"When you are a striker and on the pitch you are trying to score goals from the first minute. It doesn`t matter if you start, if you are on the bench, if you come on it doesn`t change my philosophy when I come on, I just want to play. It was great to start, it was my first start for a while now. I am pleased with that, pleased to get a goal but not pleased with the result."

The Falkirk supporters seemed to be far from pleased to see their former hero return to The Falkirk Stadium in a Dunfermline strip. In season 2011-2012 the French Moroccan scored 27 goals in 43 appearances. He commented on the `welcome` and his decision to join the Pars:-

"That`s okay, that`s football. I can understand it, I am not happy with it but we are professionals who have to do what it is right for ourselves and for me it was definitely the right thing to do. I am just happy to be playing football again.

"Dunfermline have given me the chance. Obviously it was hard after the injury for clubs to give me a chance and I have to be grateful for that. You never know what can happen but I am really pleased that I signed and I will try to do well for them."

The 31 year old who hopes to make an impact as a Pars player feels all the better for regular football:-

"The more you play the better you feel. I feel quite good, still not exactly where I would like to be but it keeps improving every weekend. I will keep working hard."
